RDA Announces Endorsement of Official Outputs and Webinar
Research Data Alliance (RDA) is pleased to announce that four of the âoutputsâ developed out of its initial set of Working Groups have officially been endorsed by several external organizations located throughout the world. These âoutputs,â are technical
and social solutions and recommendations that enable data sharing, exchange, and interoperability. Working Groups at RDA initiated their development in 2013, with the goal of sharing them with other data communities who would ultimately endorse and adopt them
in their own activities.
The endorsed/adopted outputs include:

Basic Vocabulary of Foundational Terminology and a Query Tool
Created through the effortsâ of RDAâs Data Foundation and Terminology Working Group, this vocabulary was the result of the group working with 21 data models and over 120 community experts to address the problem of fragmentation in data models.

Persistent Identifier Registry
Due to the inconsistency in identifying data objects, RDAâs PID Information Types Working Group built a persistent identifier registry that supplies a base set of PIDs and a process for managing and adding future data types. The group also implemented an API
for accessing typed information.

Basic Set of Machine Actionable Rules
RDAâs Practical Policy Working Group tackled the problem of automating data management by creating a basic set of machine actionable rules that support replication, preservation, and other common application scenarios.

Data Type Model and Registry
RDAâs Data Type Registry Working Group created a process model for registering data types and managing that registry over time so that it is usable by a diverse set of users and tools.
Endorsing/adopting organizations include:

Datafed.net, a web services-based software that mediates between autonomous, distributed data providers and
users, endorsed and adopted RDAâs Basic Vocabulary of Foundational Terminology and Query Tool.

CLARIN, a large-scale collaborative effort aimed at making language resources and technology readily available
for the whole European Humanities and Social Sciences community, endorsed and adopted RDAâs Basic Vocabulary of Foundational Terminology and Query Tool.

The Materials Genome Initiative, a multi-agency U.S. initiative designed to create a new era of policy, resources,
and infrastructure that support institutions in the effort to discover, manufacture, and deploy advanced materials more efficiently, endorsed and adopted RDAâs Persistent Identifier Registry and Data Type Model and Registry.

Deep Carbon Observatory, a global research program designed to transform understanding of carbonâs role in
Earth development, endorsed and adopted RDAâs Persistent Identifier Registry and Data Type Model and Registry.

Platform for Experimental Collaborative Ethnography, an open source digital platform that supports multi-sited,
cross-scale ethnographic and historical research, endorsed and adopted RDAâs Basic Set of Machine Actionable Rules.

EUDAT, a European organization that enables researchers and practitioners from any research discipline
to preserve, find, access, and process data in a trusted environment,
endorsed and adopted RDAâs Basic Set of Machine Actionable Rules.

German Climate Computing Center â DKRZ, a central service center for the German climate research and Earth
system research, endorsed and adopted RDAâs Persistent Identifier Registry.
